Patna, Nov 19 (IANS) Bihar’s Muzaffarpur district has been officially included in the India Book of Records for the successful conduct of the historic Mega SVEEP (Systematic Voter Education and Electoral Participation) programme.
This announcement was made by District Magistrate Subrata Kumar Sen during a press conference in the Collectorate Auditorium on Wednesday.
DM Sen said that on November 3, an unprecedented 21.60 lakh citizens took the oath of democratic participation together at 14,138 places across the district.
“This achievement has been included in the India Book of Records,” he said.
After confirmation, adjudicator Narvijay Yadav informed the district administration about the recognition.
The District Magistrate also gave certificates to all the officials associated with organizing the program.
With Bihar Assembly Elections 2025 nearing, Muzaffarpur has emerged as a statewide model for voter awareness initiatives.
Under the leadership of District Election Officer cum District Magistrate Subrata Kumar Sen, the mega sweep program was organized in a grand and coordinated manner and filled the entire district with democratic enthusiasm.
The program was celebrated like a festival of democracy by spreading voter awareness from the district headquarters to the remote rural areas.
The participants included Jeevika Didis, ICDS workers, health workers, teachers, school children, government employees, labourers, farmers, traders, youth, prospective voters and common citizens.
With the collaboration of every Panchayat, school, health centre, Jeevika Gram Sangathan, NGO and several government departments, the oath taking ceremony was held simultaneously across the district, creating an atmosphere of mass participation.
The mega sweep event grew beyond just a swearing-in ceremony into a large-scale cultural extravaganza.
Activities like singing, dancing, street plays, slogan writing, rangoli, fancy dress shows and flash mobs were organized across the district.
These creative programs combined entertainment with a powerful message: “Voting is not just a right, it’s a civic duty.”
Slogans like (Pehle Voting, Phir Jalpan (First vote, then refreshments)) helped amplify the message of responsible voting.
On November 3, the central district level ceremony took place at the Shaheed Khudiram Bose Stadium, where DM Subrata Kumar Sen administered the oath to a huge crowd.
All observers, returning officers and officials of various departments were present.
Voting was held in the first phase in Muzaffarpur on 6 November.
