Patna, Nov 19 (IANS) In contrast to the flurry of surprises in Bihar’s new government, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has opted to stick to the “trinity”, securing one of its biggest mandates and crossing the 200-mark in the 243-member Assembly.
On Wednesday, JDU, which has 85 MLAs, elected Nitish Kumar as the leader of its legislative party. The BJP, which has 89 MLAs, elected Samrat Chaudhary as the legislature party leader and Vijay Kumar Sinha as its deputy leader.
This sets the stage for the formation of the next government in Bihar, which is likely to happen on Thursday.
In the BJP legislature party meeting, Samrat Chaudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha were elected as leader and deputy leader respectively.
Keshav Prasad Maurya, BJP’s central observer for the election of BJP legislature party leader, told the media that Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha have been elected unanimously by the party and he congratulated both the leaders.
Maurya told reporters after his election, “The pairing of Samrat Chaudhary and Vijay Sinha is both fit and hit.”
Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha will retain their Deputy Chief Minister posts like the previous government led by Nitish Kumar.
In another important meeting, Nitish Kumar was unanimously elected the leader of the JD(U) legislature party, paving the way for the formation of the next government.
Now all eyes are on the NDA Legislature Party meeting to be held on Wednesday at 3 pm, where Nitish Kumar is likely to be elected the leader of the NDA Legislature Party.
The decision of both the BJP and JD(U) to stick to their previous faces effectively rules out any surprise element in the new Bihar government.
According to reports, JDU and BJP are likely to have 15 members each in the new NDA government, while Chirag Paswan’s LJP will have two and Upendra Kushwaha’s RLM and Jitan Ram Manjhi’s HAM(S) will have one ministerial berth each.
In the evening, Nitish Kumar will meet Bihar Governor Arif Mohammad Khan and submit his resignation from the post of Chief Minister, formally starting the process of formation of the new government.
