Patna, November 24 (IANS) Gopalganj Police in Bihar has cracked the sensational Savita Devi murder case with the arrest of the main accused, her husband Munna Chaudhary. An official gave this information on Monday.
The incident took place on November 16 in Pandey Samail village of Adhikar police station area of Gopalganj district.
The entire village is shocked by the incident. However, investigators suspected her husband from the beginning as he had absconded soon after the incident.
According to the police, Munna Chaudhary, arrested near Barkagaon Chowk, has confessed to committing the crime.
Savita Devi was murdered in the village on the morning of 16 November, and it was initially believed that the case was carried out by unknown criminals.
The post mortem report revealed that the deceased had suffered multiple bullet injuries.
Hathwa SDPO Anand Mohan Gupta said that the accused has been arrested on the basis of human intelligence and technical surveillance.
Gupta said, “During interrogation, Munna revealed that he had hired four operatives from Siwan to carry out the murder due to family feud, domestic dispute and a suspected extramarital affair. The accused confessed to paying Rs 5 lakh for the crime.”
Based on his information, the district police have recovered a country-made pistol used in the crime and the clothes worn by the accused during the incident.
Officials also told that Savita Devi is the mother of a BSF jawan.
Based on a written complaint by his daughter, an FIR has been registered at Mirganj police station under relevant sections of the Indian Code of Justice (BNS) Act including murder and criminal conspiracy.
As the investigation progressed and technical evidence was examined, the husband’s role became clear.
Gupta said, “The district police has formed several teams to arrest the remaining accused. The teams are currently conducting raids at several places to arrest them. More arrests are expected soon.”
