Bihar fuel scam line: BJP MP convict Betiyah Mayor for ‘corruption’

Patna, September 23 (IANS) A political storm exploded in Bihar when Prashant Kishore, the head of Jaan Suraj, accused BJP MP Sanjay Jaiswal of participation in alleged corruption related to “irregularities” in a municipal petrol pump.

Responding to the allegations, Jaiswal issued a detailed explanation on Facebook, claiming that Betiyah Mayor Garima Devi Sakaria is responsible for the alleged diesel theft, not her.

Jaiswal questioned the Mayor’s silence, wrote, “Is Garima Devi Sikaria herself a criminal of diesel theft, which he discussed with Prashant Kishore?”

The Lok Sabha member alleged that despite his first demand for a special municipal meeting to present all the documents related to the alleged scam, the mayor deliberately avoided the theft of diesel in the agenda of the meeting.

He further claimed that after filling diesel, municipal vehicles were regularly taken to ward councilor Rohit Sikaria’s warehouse in Biada, where fuel was closed and vehicles were sold before returning to parking.

“Is this the reason why Betiyah Mayor does not want to make this diesel theft public, all of which are available for the strong committee?” Jaiswal asked.

Jaiswal also alleged that two municipal employees, Zullam Sah and Tabrez, were issuing diesel coupons and continued illegal activities despite earlier recommendations for their removal.

To ensure accountability, Jaiswal announced that he would meet Bihar Minister Jeevesh Kumar to demand the formation of a special investigation team (SIT).

He said, “I will personally meet the minister and in the last two years, I will seek a sit -up investigation in all the work done in the wards of the members of the strong committee, with a complete investigation,” he said.

The controversy comes when Prashant Kishore intensified his Jan Suraj Yatra, causing corruption to become a major political issue before the 2025 Bihar assembly elections.

Prashant Kishore also made allegations of serious corruption against Bihar Vice President Samrat Chaudhary, State Health Minister Mangal Pandey and Rural Construction Minister Ashok Chaudhary. However, none of them, except Sanjay Jaiswal, have not yet clarified.
