Patna, Nov 19 (IANS) The recently concluded general elections for the Bihar State Assembly in 2025 have revealed a remarkable trend in voter mobilization and candidate performance, with over 71 per cent of BJP and JDU candidates getting over 80,000 votes.
The figures suggest an intense political landscape where securing a seat often requires a substantial mandate, with about 40 percent of all winning candidates getting 80,000 or more votes.
A total of 243 seats were contested. The two biggest winners, BJP and JD(U), secured 89 and 85 seats respectively, which combined for a majority of 174 seats.
The BJP showed significant strength at the upper end of the voting spectrum, with 25 of its winners securing 100,000 to 109,999 votes, and another 21 winners crossing the 90,000 vote mark.
Notably, a BJP candidate also crossed 140,000 votes.
JD(U) also showed strong mobilization, with 25 winners getting 90000-99999 votes and another 25 getting 100,000-109,999 votes.
In comparison, RJD secured 25 seats, with a modest number of winners in the highest bracket, with four candidates getting between 110,000 and 119,999 votes.
LJP (RV) won 19 seats, with six of its winners getting between 900,00 and 999,99 votes.
The overall distribution of winners shows that Bihar’s battle is being fought largely on the ground with votes.
A significant portion of the winning candidates across parties – 63 winners – received 100,000 to 109,999 votes, underscoring the high threshold for victory in the 2025 elections.
