Patna, Nov 13 (IANS) Amid preparations for the counting of votes in the Bihar Assembly elections on November 14, tension prevailed in Sasaram in Rohtas district when Grand Alliance candidates and supporters created a ruckus outside the strong room in the market committee complex in Takiya Bazar early Thursday.
The protest started around 2 am, when the CCTV cameras inside the strong room stopped working and a truck entered the complex without security check.
Fearing trouble, RJD candidates Rajesh Yadav (Dinara) and Satyendra Sah (Sasaram) reached the spot with their supporters and sat on strike, raising slogans against the district administration.
Rajesh Yadav alleged, “A truck loaded with EVMs has entered. Despite complaints, the administration is not responding. CCTV is off – clearly something wrong is happening.”
Satyendra Sah said, “Why did the truck enter the strong room at night? This is a conspiracy to change the EVMs because the Grand Alliance is winning all the seven seats in Rohtas.”
After the uproar, District Magistrate Udita Singh and Superintendent of Police (SP) Roshan Kumar arrived with the police force.
The truck was inspected, and officials clarified that it contained empty boxes for storing EVMs.
DM Udita Singh said, “All the boxes have been checked and found to be empty. However, if there is any doubt, CCTV footage will be examined.”
However, Grand Alliance leaders questioned why the truck was brought in at night, and their protest continued till late night despite official assurances.
The incident has further escalated political tension in Rohtas, with RJD candidates alleging a conspiracy to tamper with EVMs before the counting of votes. The district administration has reiterated that arrangements have been made for peaceful counting of votes on November 14.
Voting was held for all 243 seats of Bihar Assembly in two phases on 6 and 11 November.
Voting percentage was recorded at over 66 per cent, which was almost 10 per cent higher than the 2020 election.
