Patna, Oct 22 (IANS) In a dramatic development ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections, the nomination of RJD candidate Shweta Suman from Mohania Assembly constituency in Kaimur district has been cancelled, dealing a blow to the RJD and its leader Tejashwi Yadav.
Suman cried in front of media persons after her nomination was rejected amid allegations of using fake caste certificate.
Shweta Suman has accused BJP of conspiring to cancel her nomination and alleged that this move is politically motivated.
The controversy began when the BJP filed a complaint with the Election Commission objecting to her candidature as she is not a resident of Bihar, which is a condition to contest from a reserved constituency in the state.
After investigation, the Election Commission canceled his nomination citing discrepancies in his documents.
“The Election Commission gave me time to rectify the errors, but when I reached the ERO office, the officials simply said that my nomination has been rejected. They did not even listen to my side. If the decision had already been taken, then why was I called for correction?” Suman said while accusing BJP candidate Sangeeta Kumari of conspiring the entire episode.
The case took an interesting turn when a similar objection was filed against Jan Suraj candidate Geeta Devi (known as Geeta Pasi), who was accused of being a non-resident of Bihar. However, after investigation, Geeta Pasi’s documents were found valid and her nomination was accepted.
After getting her nomination approved, Geeta said, “Fearing my growing popularity, the sitting MLA Sangeeta Kumari conspired to file a false complaint. She wants to win the election not by contesting among the people but through paperwork. The public knows the truth and will answer on the election day.”
He also took a dig at the local administration, saying that the public is ready to answer to those officials who take commission from the people.
After the cancellation of Shweta Suman’s nomination, while dissatisfaction has spread in RJD circles, a lot of enthusiasm is being seen in the Jan Suraj camp.
The Mohania contest – which was earlier seen as a triangular fight between RJD, BJP and Jan Suraj – now seems to be taking a new and unexpected shape.
The incident has heightened political tension in the constituency, setting the stage for an even more bitter fight in the coming days.
