The drama unfolded on Monday (October 13) when Lalu Prasad gave party tickets to several candidates until his son and party leader Tejashwi Yadav pointed out that the India Bloc was yet to formally announce the seat-sharing formula.
When the couple returned from Delhi after appearing in court in the IRCTC hotel scam case, a stampede-like situation was seen outside bungalow 10, Circular Road, allotted to RJD supremo’s wife Rabri Devi.
Many candidates received calls from the party and within minutes they left with party symbols in their hands and broad smiles on their faces.
The situation changed after it came to light that Tejashwi, who had returned from Delhi, was angry with this development. Reports say Tejashwi told his father that photographs and video clips of party candidates with the election symbol may not go down well with the coalition partners, with whom no agreement has been reached yet.
The distribution of party symbols was stopped and those who had received them were asked to return the tickets citing “technical issues”.
Prominent among those who got the RJD symbol were Sunil Singh (Parbatta), who quit Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s JDU last week, and former multiple-time MLA from Matihani Narendra Kumar Singh alias Bogo, who had won the seat twice for the CM-led party.
Several sitting RJD MLAs like Bhai Virendra, Chandrashekhar Yadav (Madhepura), and Israel Mansouri (Kanti) also came out of the party supremo’s house waving the party symbol.
