Patna, Nov 2 (IANS) Congress leader Rahul Gandhi went fishing in Bihar’s Begusarai district soon after addressing a public rally on Sunday. While trying his hand at fishing in a local pond, the Congress MP interacted with the fishermen community, heard their grievances and tried to get a first-hand account of the challenges and struggles of the profession.
Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) chief and Grand Alliance’s deputy chief ministerial face Mukesh Sahni also joined him.
In a rare and close interaction with fishermen, Rahul Gandhi apprised them of the alliance’s poll promises including Rs 5,000 assistance to fishermen families during the crisis period, fisheries insurance scheme and rejuvenation of rivers and ponds.
Earlier, Rahul Gandhi, while addressing an election rally, sharply criticized the state government as well as the Centre.
He said that the people of Bihar make their name famous even in foreign countries, where they migrate, but after coming back home, their condition remains pathetic.
He blamed the ruling government for his fate and accused it of failing several developmental initiatives launched by the UPA government for the upliftment of Bihar, including the revival of Nalanda University.
“People of Bihar migrate to other states. There they work hard and contribute to the development of those states. If the people of Bihar can build a city like Dubai with their blood and sweat, then why can’t they build Bihar?” He said.
He further alleged, “The reason behind this is that the BJP-JDU government here did not give a chance to the people. Our UPA government had started the work of reconstruction of excellent universities like Nalanda, but the government here has ruined everything.”
He blamed the ruling government for not leaking the paper, which has not only brought bad name to the state but also put the future of the youth of the state in danger.
Rahul Gandhi promised to revive the education sector if the grand alliance government comes to power in the state.
He said, “We will open a university where people from all over the world will come to study. The people here work hard to build the world.”
He said, “We have prepared a ‘special manifesto’ for the extremely backward classes, which we will implement. We will move forward taking everyone along. This government will not leave anyone behind. Our priority will be small businesses.”
