New Delhi, Oct 23 (IANS) Hours after carrying out one of the biggest crackdown on interstate crime, Delhi Police made some shocking revelations about the intentions and motives of Bihar gangsters to disrupt the upcoming assembly elections and also revealed how four criminals found ‘safe haven’ in the capital.
Addressing a press conference, Delhi Police Crime Branch Joint CP Surendra Kumar said the gang of four criminals were hiding in the national capital for the past several days and were traced and confronted after receiving inputs from Bihar Police about their whereabouts.
He told the press that Sigma gang leader Ranjan Pathak had a reward of Rs 25,000 on him and was wanted in at least eight criminal cases.
Four criminals from the notorious Sigma gang, responsible for some high-profile murders in Bihar, were also planning to launch a major criminal operation during the upcoming assembly elections, a senior police officer told the press.
According to the police, he had also committed a murder in Bihar after the election code of conduct came into force on October 6.
He said further investigation is underway and police are interrogating acquaintances of the accused to probe deeper into the motive of the gangsters.
Members of the Sigma gang were killed in an encounter with Delhi Police in the early hours of Thursday as the latter launched surveillance and laid a trap in the area on vital inputs from Bihar Police. A pistol and a stolen car were recovered from the accused.
During a police operation in North-West Delhi, criminals opened fire on the police team and were injured in retaliation. He was taken to a hospital in Rohini, where doctors declared him brought dead.
This operation was carried out by a joint team of Delhi Police Crime Branch and Bihar Police.
The four most wanted were identified as Ranjan Pathak (25), Bimlesh Mahato alias Bimlesh Sahni (25), Manish Pathak (33) and Aman Thakur (21). All of them were residents of Sitamarhi district of Bihar and were part of ‘Sigma Gang’.
