Alinagar seat: election results and political scenario
Although Thakur will contest from Alinagar assembly seat in Darbhanga district on BJP ticket, her path to victory is expected to be challenging. According to reports, the seat has seen changes in political dynamics and close contests in recent years.
Alinagar was earlier occupied by Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP). BJP Allies in the 2020 elections. Mishrilal Yadav, representing VIP, won the seat by defeating RJD’s Binod Mishra. Yadav later joined the BJP but lost his MLA status, forcing the NDA to field a new candidate for the 2025 elections.
Historically, Alinagar seat has been a stronghold of RJD. After the 2008 delimitation, parts of Manigachhi assembly constituency were merged into Darbhanga Rural, and Alinagar was separated from the remaining areas.
Earlier this area was home to prominent Brahmin Congress leaders, but with time the social and political equations changed. RJD’s Abdul Bari Siddiqui recognized the new dynamics while contesting and winning elections in 2010 and 2015.
In 2020, the RJD attempted to capitalize on the Brahmin vote by nominating Binod Mishra, while the NDA countered with a Yadav candidate. The contest was tough, which highlights how caste and community equations play a decisive role in the election outcome of Alinagar. With this history, Maithili Thakur faced a competitive battle in her first political campaign.
