Bihar Elections 2025: Election Commission tells parties, ‘Do not misuse AI-based tools in election campaign.’

The Election Commission has warned political parties against misusing AI to create deepfakes or distort information in the Bihar Assembly elections.

In a statement on Thursday (October 9), the election authority also reminded parties of its instructions to prominently label al-generated or synthetic content being shared for campaigning through their social media platforms or as advertisements.

Parties, star campaigners and candidates must prominently declare whether the content is “al-generated”, “digitally enhanced” or “synthetic content”.

It cautioned that social media posts are being closely monitored to ensure that the election atmosphere is not vitiated.

“The Commission advised parties against misusing AI-based tools to distort information or propagate misinformation on social media platforms, stressing the need to maintain the integrity of the electoral process,” it said.

During the last Lok Sabha elections, the Election Commission came up with a set of instructions for parties against misuse of artificial intelligence to prevent the spread of misinformation.

Voting will be held in two phases in Bihar on November 6 and 11 and the counting of votes will take place on November 14.
