For first-time voters, it is important to know the complete voting process and ECI guidelines to avoid any disruption in exercising their democratic right.
As a first-time voter, one must first register to vote on the Election Commission (EC) website. This includes using the Voter Services Portal to fill Form 6 online.
After entering all the required information, you can locate the polling station according to your residential area.
Here are some important factors to keep in mind on voting day:
What to do at the polling station
- It is advisable to confirm your name and polling station in the voter list before reaching the polling station. You can check voter list and polling station list on ECI website.
 - Know the timing of voting at your polling station.
 - Carry relevant documents like Voter ID card with you before leaving for the polling booth. If you do not have a Voter ID card, you can also use other identity documents approved by ECI for voting.
 - Follow the restrictions and rules at the polling station and wait for your turn to vote.
 - After casting your vote, verify the output of the VVPAT machine connected to the EVM. In case of any discrepancy, you can report to the presiding officer.
 
Do not go to the polling station
- It is important to know that the polling station is a restricted area and any violation of the rules can lead to punitive action by the police.
 - Do not use your mobile phone at the polling station.
 - Taking selfies and using cameras is also prohibited. Avoid taking photographs in restricted areas after casting your vote.
 - Do not impersonate any other voter. This is a criminal offense and can lead to imprisonment.
 - Do not bring any material resembling the election symbol of any political party or leader to the polling booth.
 - Avoid getting involved in any kind of argument or fight with anyone at the polling booth. In case of any difficulty it is advised to seek help from police or election officials.
 - Show your EPIC-Voter ID card at the polling station, follow the rules and do not try to press more than one button while voting.
