Patna, Oct 22 (IANS) Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary addressed a massive election rally in Belhar assembly constituency on Wednesday evening, appealing to voters to re-elect BJP ally and sitting MLA Manoj Yadav, and also launched a strong attack on the opposition parties.
Chaudhary drew a sharp contrast between what he called development versus ‘jungle raj’ and said the Nitish Kumar government has transformed Bihar through roads, power and welfare schemes.
“Earlier, there were no roads to Belhar, but today, under the leadership of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, metalled roads have been built. The electricity situation has also changed dramatically – from 1.7 million households earlier, now 27.4 million households have electricity. Since August 1, 125 units of electricity have been made free, resulting in zero bills for 1.7 crore households,” he said.
Highlighting the welfare initiatives, the Deputy CM said Rs 1,100 per month is being directly transferred into the accounts of the elderly, disabled and widowed women, benefiting 1.12 crore families across the state.
Taking a dig at former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, Chaudhary commented: “Rajiv Gandhi once said that if Rs 100 is sent, only Rs 15 reaches the poor. But now, every rupee goes directly into the beneficiary’s account.”
On women empowerment, he praised the cycle scheme launched by Nitish Kumar and Sushil Kumar Modi two decades ago, saying that it has changed the lives of girls.
“Those daughters have now become mothers, and Jeevika Didis are moving towards becoming millionaires. Under the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rozgar Yojana, Rs 2 lakh will be provided to such women – Rs 10,000 has already been deposited, and the rest will come soon,” he said.
Taking aim at RJD and Congress, Chaudhary said that their politics is old and misleading.
He said, “The era of the lantern is over, but the person holding it is still wandering. He will disappear in this election. Congress looted the country for 55 years. Now they are spreading lies that the government will take back women’s money. I am the Finance Minister of Bihar – I promise that no woman’s money will ever be taken back.”
He also criticized JDU MP Girdhari Yadav, accusing him of betraying the people of Banka.
Choudhary said, “We elected him twice, but he deceived the public both times. Now he roams around with his son carrying a lantern. People should beware of such imposters.”
Giridhari Yadav’s son has recently joined RJD and is also contesting the elections on RJD ticket.
The deputy CM made several development promises for the region, including the construction of a new expressway through Banka, which he said would make it possible to travel to Kolkata within five hours.
He also mentioned the ongoing project to bring Ganga water to Hanuman Dam for irrigation, which costs Rs 2,000 crore.
He declared, “Within a year, the water of the Ganga will reach Hanuman Dam – no one can stop it.”
Chaudhary also said that GST rates have been reduced, making essential goods cheaper, and reiterated Prime Minister Modi’s vision of transforming India from a golden bird to a city of gold.
A large crowd was present at the rally and applause continued repeatedly during Chaudhary’s address.
