Patna, 19 September (IANS) Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Friday inaugurated the newly constructed State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) building in Dilawarpur in Patna district.
Deputy Chief Minister Emperor Chaudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, Chief Secretary Pratay Amrit, along with several ministers and senior officials attended the ceremony.
Speaking at the event, Nitish Kumar said that the state government has continuously worked to strengthen disaster management systems in Bihar, and new facilities will greatly improve efficiency, training and housing for SDRF personnel.
Established in 2010 on the lines of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), SDRF has played an important role in relief and rescue operations in a disaster-hit state like Bihar.
However, the absence of in-house training infrastructure often forced SDRF personnel to depend on facilities in other states.
The purpose of the new campus is to bridge that difference.
Spread over a modern campus, the convenience includes administrative buildings and auditoriums with a capacity of 500 people, training centers for 290 trainees and a rapid disaster response team-building unit for 30 soldiers, national level swimming pool designed for flood-maintaining training, residential facilities with family housing for 108 officers and 150 employees, 330 soldiers for halls and houses and housing.
Officials said that the state -of -the -art centers will not only increase the preparations for SDRF, but will also reduce dependence on external training institutes, allowing Bihar to be allowed to respond more rapidly for natural disasters such as floods, storms and earthquakes.
The first phase of construction, which included administrative buildings and residential complexes, was completed earlier this year.
The second phase, including a 500-seat capacity and flood-maintaining training, training facilities and a national level swimming pool for barracks, was originally scheduled for June 2025, but delayed in a few months.
Officials insisted that the SDRF plays an important role during the monsoon season, especially in flood management and rescue operations.
The personnel are deployed with major rivers to stop the tragedies, vacate the trapped villagers and provide relief.
With increased features, SDRF will be able to react rapidly and more effectively for emergency situations such as floods, storms and other disasters.
