Kolkata, 1 October (IANS) On the night of Ashtami, a group of attackers shot a businessman on a public road in Howrah district of West Bengal.
The incident took place on Tuesday night at Banbari Basu Lane in Howrah district. During the Durga Puja Festival, such an incident in a crowded area spread nervousness in the area. After receiving the information, the police quickly reached the spot.
According to police sources, the deceased businessman has been identified as Suresh Yadav (50). Suresh, a resident of Gopalganj Gram Panchayat area of Bihar, came to West Bengal to visit Durga Puja.
Local people said that Suresh was passing through the evening market area of Banbhari Basu Lane at around 9:30 pm, at that time, a group of youth was suddenly riding a bike. He fired several rounds and fled the area. Suresh fell on the spot. On receiving the information, Howrah police reached the spot. Suresh was rescued in a critical condition and rushed to Howrah District Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on duty.
Stress soon spread after the death of the businessman. High ranked officers of Howrah city police also reached the spot.
According to police sources, preliminary investigation has revealed that Suresh originally came to Howrah on a visit. Police is investigating whether the attackers also have Bihar connections. CCTV footage of the spot has been collected, and the locals are also being questioned.
“On the evening of Ashtami, a person has been shot dead. The incident has caused panic in the area, especially during the Durga Puja Festival. The bike-borne attacker came to the area to target the businessman. Several rounds were removed. The businessman was declared dead after sending a hospital.
