Patna, November 11 (IANS) While the voting percentage has been high so far in the second phase of Bihar assembly elections, some sad and disturbing incidents were reported from different parts of the state on Tuesday. In a major incident in Arwal district, a presiding officer died on duty. According to officials, the health of Arvind Kumar, posted at polling station number 189 located at Maneri Bigha under Arwal assembly constituency, suddenly deteriorated during voting. He was immediately taken to Sadar Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Kumar, a teacher from Kalyanpur School, was deployed on election duty. Administrative officials confirmed the incident and said the officer’s family would receive ex-gratia as per government rules. Additional staff were deployed at the booth and voting continued without any disruption. In another incident, tension prevailed in Aurangabad district when a youth was allegedly beaten up at Raipura booth. It is alleged that the attackers beat him up for not voting for their favorite candidate. Police has started the investigation of the matter. The third election-related incident has come to light from Bagaha subdivision of West Champaran district, where the ECI took cognizance of a video circulated on social media allegedly showing Jeevika Didis influencing voters in favor of a particular party. “The Social Media Platform Commission further said that clarification has been sought from the concerned persons and an investigation team has been formed,” the ECI said in an official statement. “Based on the report received from the investigation team, if the allegations are found to be true, legal action will be taken as per the standards and guidelines laid down by the ECI,” the statement said. Stressing the need to maintain the integrity of the electoral process, the ECI also urged the public to refrain from sharing unverified or misleading videos on social media. Despite these sporadic incidents, voting continued peacefully in most of the constituencies. An average of 60.40 percent voting took place till 3 pm. –IANS AJK/SVN
