Pets will now be classed as luggage when carried on flights, meaning airlines will no longer have to pay as much compensation if an animal is lost.
The decision comes after a case in which a dog escaped from its pet at Buenos Aires airport and was never returned. The owner tried to claim €5,000 (£4,340) but was ultimately rejected because he did not make any specific declaration regarding the luggage when he checked it in.
