New Delhi, Oct 23 (IANS) The chief ministers of Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi on Thursday extended warm greetings to the people on the occasion of ‘Bhai Dooj’, the Hindu festival that celebrates the special bond between brothers and sisters.
‘Bhai Dooj’, also known as ‘Bhaiya Dooj’, ‘Bhai Tika’ or ‘Bhau Beej’, is celebrated with great affection and gaiety in various regions of India.
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said on ‘X’, “Hearty congratulations and best wishes to the people of the state and the country on the occasion of Bhaiya Dooj, the festival of sacred bond and love between brother and sister.”
Extending his wishes, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath posted on ‘X’ in Hindi (literally translated), “Warm greetings to everyone on the auspicious occasion of Bhaiya Dooj that strengthens the bond of love and trust between brother and sister! May the life of every sister be illuminated with happiness, good fortune and prosperity by the grace of Mother Yamuna and may the life of every brother be illuminated with light.” Of courage, success and a bright future. This is my prayer.”
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta also shared her wishes on ‘X’, saying that this holy festival celebrates the precious bond of affection, trust and devotion between brothers and sisters.
“Warm greetings on the auspicious occasion of Bhai Dooj, a symbol of unwavering love, selfless devotion and unwavering faith. This holy festival celebrates the priceless bond of affection, trust and devotion between a brother and sister, who inspire each other to provide moral support in the ups and downs of life. May this auspicious festival illuminate everyone’s life with the light of happiness, joy, prosperity and unwavering faith.” May harmony, and this bond between brothers and sisters, always remain intact and strong,” she said.
Bhai Dooj is celebrated on the second lunar day of Shukla Paksha in Kartik, the eighth month of Vikram Samvat and Shalivahana Saka calendar, symbolizing the deep affection between brothers and sisters. This festival coincides with Diwali and Diwali Tihar in many regions.
According to legend, on Kartik Shukla Dwitiya, Goddess Yamuna invited her brother Yamraj for a feast at her home. Since then, this day is celebrated as Bhai Dooj, which signifies that all living beings are liberated from the sufferings of hell and blessed with happiness.
