‘Best decision in history’: Burke reacts to wages hike

Employment Minister Tony Burke has reacted to the Fair Work Commission’s 8.6 per cent increase in the minimum wage.

Speaking to reporters following the record decision, Mr Burke said it was a “great day for workers”.

“Today, the Fair Work Commission has handed down the best decision for the minimum wage in the history of these decisions,” Mr Burke said.

“They have handed down the best outcome for award wages in the history of these decisions.

“The Government very much welcomes the decision of the independent umpire in the Fair Work Commission.”
