Bengaluru, October 10 (IANS) Karnataka’s RDPR, IT and BT Minister Priyank Kharge on Friday said that Bengaluru’s traffic problem is also a sign of the city’s development.
Addressing the Mobility Symposium 2025, Priyank Kharge, referring to Bengaluru’s traffic, said, “75.5 per cent of Bengaluru’s population is working, we are at number four globally. If you ask me, it is a good problem to have. A lot of people believe that Bengaluru has traffic problems. We are having traffic problems because we are growing.”
He said: “Last year, around 77.92 million sq ft of office space was sold to global capability centers across the top seven cities. Of this, 47 per cent was Bengaluru alone. This year, we have sold around 14.5 million sq ft to global capability centers alone and I am not talking about other office space.”
Minister Kharge said, “This is the development we are doing. The city has absorbed the highest number of migrants, because they are getting jobs here and we are registering 1.2 crore vehicles, about 82 lakh two-wheelers and 25 lakh four-wheelers.”
“Bengaluru’s mobility story reflects both our successes and our challenges. We are one of the fastest growing cities in the world, with our GDP projected to grow by more than 8.5 per cent annually over the next decade,” he said on social media platform X.
Minister Kharge said, the government is solving all the challenges in collaboration with think tanks and corporates.
Recently, the Congress-led government and Deputy CM DK Shivakumar, who is also the Bengaluru Development Minister, faced severe criticism from IT industry leaders over poor road infrastructure and pothole problem in Bengaluru city.
In this regard, his statement challenging the IT companies to “not blackmail” and “go wherever you want” had also created a huge controversy.
