Bengaluru, Oct 11 (IANS) Bengaluru Police has busted a gang of five who, in a daring act, broke into a house within the limits of Subramanyapura police station and abducted a 19-year-old Chartered Accountancy (CA) student. An official said on Saturday that the girl has been rescued.
Police said one of the accused, a bike mechanic with a criminal history, had planned the kidnapping to pressurize the girl for marriage.
The arrested persons have been identified as Ranganath, Rajesh, Chandan, Shreyas and Manjunath.
According to the police, Ranganath, a bike mechanic, was known to the victim and had earlier been jailed in a murder case.
He had allegedly pressurized the girl to get married and had even created a ruckus twice in front of her residence a month ago and demanded that her family agree to the marriage.
The girl is a first year CA student in a private college.
On the evening of October 8, when her parents were at home, Ranganath and four of his associates arrived on a bike and an autorickshaw, entered her house in Simhadri Layout near Chikkalasandra and attempted to kidnap her.
When her parents tried to stop them, the accused allegedly attacked them with weapons, forcefully dragged the girl into the autorickshaw and fled from the spot.
The victim’s father lodged a complaint at Subramanyapura police station.
Taking the matter seriously, the police formed two teams and started investigation from every aspect. The accused were traced and arrested and during interrogation they confessed to their crime.
He was produced in the court and sent to judicial custody. The operation was led by South East Division DCP Anita B Hadannavar.
Recently, Ashoknagar police in Bengaluru solved a kidnapping case and rescued a 37-year-old manager of a private company, who was allegedly kidnapped by his girlfriend and her associates while demanding ransom. Investigation revealed that the victim, an NRI, was kidnapped by his female friend for ransom.
In August 2024, a woman in Udupi was allegedly kidnapped and raped by a man she met on Instagram. The victim was drugged and assaulted, and two men were later arrested.
In May 2025, a religious leader was arrested in Bagalkot for the kidnapping and rape of a 17-year-old girl. The victim was lured and held hostage before being released.
