Kolkata, Nov 3 (IANS) The West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC) has identified 3,512 candidates as ‘tainted’ who had allegedly paid money to get school jobs in the 2016 panel and hence will not be able to participate in the new recruitment process.
Earlier this year, when a division bench of the Supreme Court canceled the entire 2016 panel of 25,753 school jobs, both teaching and non-teaching staff were among those who lost jobs.
Written examinations for the teaching staff of secondary and higher-secondary sections have already been completed, and their results are expected any day now.
Now, there will be a written examination for new recruitment for non-teaching staff in Group-C and Group-D categories, the notification for which has already been published, and WBSSC has started receiving applications for it from Monday.
At the same time, on Monday, the Commission published the list of 3,512 tainted candidates, who will not be able to participate in the new recruitment process.
Of the 3,512 candidates identified as “tainted” according to the list published on Monday, 2,591 secured jobs without recommendation letters from the commission, and the remaining 921 candidates secured jobs through rank-jumping.
Incidentally, on April 3 this year, when the Supreme Court division bench quashed the entire 2016 panel WBSSC, it allowed “spotless” teachers to attend classes till December this year, by which time the recruitment process of teaching staff would be completed.
However, the apex court did not extend the same exemption to non-teaching staff, whether they are “tainted” or “spotless”. After this, the West Bengal government decided to give an allowance of Rs 25,000 per month to unemployed Group C employees and Rs 20,000 per month to Group D employees. However, in view of a case the Calcutta High Court stayed that decision.
