Kolkata, Nov 2 (IANS) A day after Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the West Bengal Assembly and senior BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari accused Adhikari of misbehaving with people participating in the immersion of Jagaddhatri Puja in Krishnanagar in Nadia district, police responded on Sunday.
On Saturday, on his official X account, the LOP officer had criticized a policeman who tortured people.
After sharing a social media post with a purported video of the incident, the LOP said, “The language coming out of the mouth of Inspector Amalendu Biswas, in-charge of Kotwali police station, while unjustly torturing Hindus at the time of immersion during Jagaddhatri Puja in Krishnanagar shows how Mamata Banerjee’s police administration views Hindus.”
He had accused the police of failing to ensure law and order during the immersion process despite making all arrangements.
Responding to the allegations of the LOP officer, the Krishnanagar district police issued a statement without naming the BJP leader, saying that the police have to resort to lathi charge to stop incidents of harassment of women.
Commenting on the incident, the police also said that it is unfair to give a communal color to the incident and also rejected the allegations of LOP.
