Kolkata, October 22 (IANS) A Bangladeshi infiltrator and an Indian broker were arrested early Wednesday from the India-Bangladesh border area in West Bengal’s Murshidabad district.
The arrested Bangladeshi youth has been identified as Maroof Ali. His house is in Chapainwabganj area of Bangladesh. The arrested broker was identified as Ansar Ali, a resident of Ramnagar area under Lalgola police station of Murshidabad district.
It is said that the police of Rani Nagar police station received information that an attempt was being made by a Bangladeshi in the border area to infiltrate into the country. Acting on the information, the officers conducted a raid in Katlamari Gram Panchayat area under Rani Nagar police station in the early hours.
At the same time the police arrested two people. During interrogation it was revealed that one of them lives in Bangladesh and the other in India.
Police said that the arrested Bangladeshi was continuously helped by an Indian broker living in Lalgola area near the international border. The arrested people will be produced in the court today, where the police will demand their custody.
A senior officer of Murshidabad police district said, “Two people have been arrested. One of them is Bangladeshi, while the other is Indian. The Bangladeshi had entered the country with the help of an Indian broker. After the arrest, both have been interrogated. Investigation into the case has started.”
It is noteworthy that recently the soldiers of 143 battalion of Border Security Force (BSF) had foiled an attempt to smuggle gold from across the border.
It is being told that in the operation conducted at Hakimpur border post in North 24 Parganas district, BSF soldiers arrested a smuggler red handed. Gold brick weighing 579 grams was recovered from the accused. The estimated market value of the recovered gold is around Rs 76.50 lakh. Later BSF jawans handed over the arrested person to the local police station.
