Kolkata, Nov 17 (IANS) West Bengal Governor CV Anand Bose’s office has directed Kolkata Police to register a First Information Report (FIR) in the matter and begin investigation into four-time Trinamool Congress Lok Sabha member Kalyan Banerjee’s allegations that arms and ammunition were being distributed from the Raj Bhavan in Kolkata.
A Raj Bhavan insider said the Governor’s office had also cautioned city police officials that action under the Governor’s powers would be taken if they did not comply with the order to register an FIR and initiate an investigation into the case.
Additionally, the insider said, the governor is also consulting legal experts on possible actions his office can take on the matter, including approaching the Lok Sabha secretariat for action against Banerjee for her controversial comments.
On Sunday morning, the Governor described the allegations made by Banerjee as “provocative, explosive and irresponsible” and also warned of strict legal action from his side. He also demanded from Kalyan Banerjee to tender an unconditional apology if his allegations made publicly were false.
However, the strong message of warning from the government could not stop Banerjee from continuing her satire. Banerjee said, “If necessary, I will also file a counter-case and fight till the Supreme Court level. Also, I am challenging the government to appear at an open forum, where I will also be present.”
Speaking to media persons on Saturday, Kalyan Banerjee alleged that the Raj Bhavan was harboring “criminals” of the BJP.
The Trinamool MP also claimed that the Governor should first stop giving shelter to criminals and distributing arms and ammunition to them to kill Trinamool Congress workers. Kalyan Banerjee said on Saturday, “As long as there is an incompetent governor like you, as long as there is a BJP servant governor, you will not see anything good happening in West Bengal.”
On Saturday, Banerjee also made a controversial statement about Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the wake of a car blast in New Delhi last week that killed 12 people.
Speaking to media persons, Banerjee said that the blast was deliberately carried out just a day before the second phase of voting in the Bihar Assembly elections, just to create a sympathy wave in favor of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and directly accused the Prime Minister of “hatching that conspiracy”.
