New Delhi, Oct 22 (IANS) Congress MP Tariq Anwar on Wednesday came out in strong support of RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav’s recent welfare announcements, especially focused on financial assistance for women and support for Jeevika Didis.
Speaking after Tejashwi’s press conference, Anwar said the plans reflect the India Bloc’s collective commitment to uplift the most vulnerable sections of the society.
Anwar said, “Tejashwi Yadav has rightly said that this decision has been taken by the INDI alliance, the announcement is that providing financial assistance to women, Rs 25,000 per month will be provided without any interest. A proper framework has also been prepared for this and a large number of women have benefited from it.”
He further said that such announcements are a normal part of election campaigning and are made after internal discussions within the alliance.
Underscoring the unified stand of the India Bloc, he said, “It is common that every party or alliance brings some announcements or declarations during its campaign. Whatever announcement is made, there is consensus of the entire alliance and all the members will cooperate in implementing it in the times to come.”
Responding to Tejashwi Yadav’s promise of more support for Jeevika Didis, women associated with the state’s self-help groups, Anwar reiterated the importance of empowering grassroots workers.
He said, “They really need this support. We believe that those who are working at the grassroots level, directly among the poor and in remote areas, they should definitely be provided assistance. If the government can provide them assistance, it should do so.”
During his press conference, Tejashwi Yadav had announced several welfare measures for women, including a monthly assistance scheme of Rs 25,000 and enhanced support for livelihood workers, which he said would be implemented if the grand alliance forms the government.
With Bihar Assembly elections scheduled to be held on November 6 and 11 and results to be declared on November 14, both the alliances are trying hard to sway public opinion through promises and stories.
