New Delhi, Oct 21 (IANS) The Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in February 2024, has come as a boon for people from all walks of life as it has not only provided them relief from high electricity bills but also opened up avenues for ‘additional income’ under the flagship scheme.
People who directly benefit from the scheme say that it is no less than a boon for them.
Apart from giving them relief from huge bills, the additional subsidy being given by the Central Government under the Solar Energy Scheme is also enhancing their financial condition.
Some beneficiaries IANS spoke to also talked about the drastic change in their electricity consumption patterns and the promotion of solar energy for domestic use.
A beneficiary of the scheme told that earlier he had to face a lot of stress in the summer due to the medicines given by the doctors due to a serious illness.
Due to his financial constraints, he hesitated to use the AC for fear of getting high bills.
After getting the benefits of the subsidy and the scheme, they no longer worry about the impending cost of using the air conditioner.
Many other beneficiaries also expressed happiness about the scheme and said that the installation of solar panels on their rooftops not only empowers them to use direct energy but also promotes clean and renewable energy.
He believes that production of clean and green energy from solar panels will contribute greatly to saving the earth from pollution.
A beneficiary said, “Earlier, I did not know much about solar panels. When I fell ill, I went to Nagpur for treatment, where my friends had installed solar panels and were benefiting from them, the electricity bill was almost zero. I came to know that the Narendra Modi government was giving a subsidy of Rs 78,000 and soon I also applied for the scheme.”
“Ever since we installed this solar plant at our home, we have received many benefits,” said a woman beneficiary.
“Getting the solar connection has brought us great relief, we have been able to save money on our electricity bills,” said an elderly beneficiary.
