“Once you’re done with treatment, it’s not the end, and I think a lot of people think from the outside that once you’re done with treatment, you’re fine, but you’ve got this newfound sense of identity,” she explains.

“You’re learning to trust your body again, you’re learning to walk a new path, which is heightened alertness and vigilance, and you’re just learning… The nervous system still needs time to calm down and say, ‘You’re safe, you’re OK, everything is going to be OK,’ while we’re still navigating…”

“I wish I didn’t have to go through this, but I think, on the other side of the desk, I’m looking forward to really embracing my patients again with that newfound sense of ‘I get it, I get it,'” she said, expressing a “deeper understanding” of the impact a cancer diagnosis has on patients.

Krishan highlighted the dual shock and trauma of such a diagnosis, noting that it is not limited to the individual but also includes their family, partners and friends. She praised the “incredible” care she received from the NHS.

She said: “I’m lucky to have the best NHS treatment and I know people may complain about this, I work in the NHS but my GP was fantastic, she listened to me, she referred me and I was put on the emergency cancer treatment pathway.”

She also praised her “phenomenal breast care team and breast cancer nurses” and oncology team for their “clinical expertise” and their “kindness and compassion” in supporting her.

Krishan is the fifth celebrity to be eliminated from the BBC dance show in 2024, having been paired with professional dancer Gorka Marquez.

The NHS advises that symptoms of breast cancer may include a lump or swelling in the breast, changes to the skin of the breast, a change in the size or shape of the breast or nipple, or persistent pain in the breast or armpit.
