Bat test positive for rabies in Mississaga

One bat has conducted a positive test for rabies in Mississaga, Peel Public Heath declared on Monday.

Balla Dairy and McLaglin were found in the Rhodes area. The health agency did not indicate whether there was any human contact with the bat.

The health agency wrote in a press release, “If you have been bitten or scratched by a wild or unknown animal, it is recommended to talk with the healthcare provider as soon as possible,” the health agency has written in a press release.

Rabies can be prevented through medical care, but symptomatic rabies infections in humans are almost always fatal. A rabies vaccination and antibody injection can prevent rabies if you receive treatment before the symptoms appear.

Ontario has a low risk of running in an infected animal and contracted rabies. However, there are some steps to prevent rabies exposure, in which unknown or wild animals are touched, contact or to avoid feeding even though they look healthy and stay away from animals who are working strangely, injured or sick.

The rabies extends only when introduced through a bite wound, open cut or when it comes in contact with the mouth or eye -like mucous membrane.

Also, if you find a bat in your house, call 311 and contact animal services and do not try to remove the bat.
