Barry Manilow The singer announced on Monday that he would undergo surgery to remove cancerous spots on his lungs and that he would reschedule his January concerts.
Manilow, 82, said doctors discovered the cancer after he suffered from bronchitis for a long time — for six weeks, then again for another five weeks.
“My wonderful doctor ordered MRI Just to make sure everything was OK,” Manilow wrote Instagram“The MRI revealed a cancerous spot on my left lung that needed to be removed, It was pure luck (and a great doctor) that it was detected so quickly,”
The singer said doctors do not believe the cancer has spread, so for now he is hoping for “no chemo. No radiation. Just chicken soup and ‘I Love Lucy’ reruns.”
A statement released by Manilow’s representatives revealed that the location was a stage one tumor, and surgery would take place in late December.
