This constituency was carved out of Patna West in 2008 and made a separate assembly constituency.
Nitin Nabeen, son of veteran BJP leader Nabeen Kishore Prasad Sinha, first won the seat in 2010 and has since retained it for four consecutive terms.
In the 2010 assembly elections, Nitin Nabin had registered a landslide victory over RJD candidate Binod Kumar Srivastava. He won the Bankipur seat by a margin of 60,840 votes.
In 2015, Nitin Nabin secured 86,759 votes and defeated Congress candidate Kumar Ashish, who received 46,992 votes.
Five years later, in the 2020 Bihar Assembly elections, the BJP leader once again won a comfortable victory by securing 83,068 votes, against Congress’s Luv Sinha, son of actor-turned-politician Shatrughan Sinha, who managed to secure 44,032 votes.
