Aarartala, 23 September (IANS) Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha said on Tuesday that a nationalized bank has assured that the entire Rs 16.38 crore, which was illegally withdrawn from the (AMC) bank account of Agartala Munipal Corporation, would be returned to the Civic body’s account, using the clone check.
The Chief Minister answered the questions to the MLAs in the Tripura Assembly and said that there was no mistake from the AMC in illegal withdrawal, as the original checks are in custody of the civic body.
After the issue was raised by Congress MLA Gopal Roy, Chief Minister Saha, who also holds the portfolio of the Home Department, told the House that an investigation was going on to find out real wrongdoings and to nab the fraudsters.
The Chief Minister said, “Through six clone checks (fake checks), the fraudsters said that the state is an outsider, recently withdrawn more than Rs 16.38 crore from AMC’s bank account,” the Chief Minister said.
A cashier of the United Commercial Bank (UCO) branch was arrested last week.
Meanwhile, opposition parties, including CPI-M and Congress, criticized the state government for fraudulent activities and huge amounts and demanded an inquiry by any central agency.
The Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) urged Chief Minister Saha to ensure a fair and fair investigation into bank fraud, with Rs 16.38 crore.
Addressing the media, TPCC President Asish Kumar Saha said, “We urge the Chief Minister to ensure a proper and fair investigation into fraud.”
He also claimed that the Bank Authority has approved the amount of Rs 16.38 crore after the “proper verification of the signature”.
Congress leader Saha said, “16.38 crore rupees were included in 78 bank accounts, and the money was later deposited in two accounts owned by two persons living in Delhi and Nagpur.”
The Tripura government has recently constituted a four -member Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate an illegal return of Rs 16.38 crore using a check from AMC’s bank account.
A senior official had said that West Tripura would lead the Additional Superintendent of Police (Urban), Dhruba Nath, SIT and submit a report to the District Superintendent of Police, nominated Pathak.
Other members of the SIT are the police officer (SDPO) of the sub-division, Sadar Deb Prasad Roy; Inspector Rana Chatterjee, West Aarartala Police Station Officer-Bhari; And the investigating officer of the case and sub-inspector Ranjit Das.
The Tripura Police launched an investigation against “unknown frauds” to withdraw the amount from AMC’s bank account after registering a case at West Aggartla Police Station, the zonal manager of UCO Bank.
He saw that it was observed that after seeing that more than Rs 16.38 crore was withdrawn from AMC bank account recently through six clone checks.
The police officer said, as per preliminary investigation, unknown fraudsters working from Hyderabad signed the signature of a former AMC officer to withdraw money from the bank, while the original checks were with the civil body.
