The West Bengal Assembly on Wednesday filed a complaint with the Election Commission alleging that former cricketer and TMC’s Baharampur Lok Sabha candidate Yusuf Pathan violated the model code of conduct by using posters of India’s winning moments at the 2011 Cricket World Cup for campaigning.
In a letter to the state’s Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), the state Congress unit demanded strict action against the former cricketer and said the use of banners and posters of the Cricket World Cup winning team was a gross violation of the MCC .
“This is to inform you that Yusuf Pathan, the All India Trinamool Congress candidate from Baharrampur in West Bengal for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, has started using banners, posters and photographs at different places in the constituency.
“It clearly depicts the winning moments of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011, with pictures of well-known cricketing personalities from our country, including Bharat Ratna,” the conference said in a letter to the CEO ·Bharat Ratna Sachin Tendulkar and others.”
