Trekking has been temporarily suspended in parts of Kudremukh Wildlife Division in Karnataka as a precautionary measure against forest fire. Forest officials said the risk of accidental fires in sensitive forest areas has increased due to dry weather, rising temperatures and increase in foot traffic during the peak season.

This restriction applies to trekking routes located inside Kudremukh National Park, Someshwar Wildlife Sanctuary and Mookambika Wildlife Sanctuary. Access for tracking has been halted until further notice.

This decision was taken primarily as a precaution; No major incident of fire has been reported so far.

For travelers planning to travel in the hilly and forest areas of Karnataka, other trekking sites will remain open.

Below are some options still available.

Mullayanagiri Peak, Chikmagalur

Mullayanagiri is the highest peak (6317 feet) in Karnataka, about 1,930 meters above sea level. The path is short but steep, with parts of the climb consisting of stone steps and open expanses near the top.

The trek passes through grasslands and rocky terrain, ending near a small temple at the summit. Visibility is generally good in clear weather, allowing views of the surrounding valleys.

The route remains open and is usually undertaken as a half-day or morning climb.

The area includes forest paths, open ridgelines and water crossings during the monsoon months. Hidalumen Falls is located on one of the longer routes.

Some sections allow jeep access, while others require complete walking, depending on the route chosen and the advice of the forest department.

Tadandamol Peak, Coorg

Tadiandamol is the highest peak of Coorg, with a height of about 1,748 metres. The trail passes through coffee plantations at the base before entering wooded areas and then through open grassland near the top.

It is considered moderately difficult and usually takes several hours each way. The peak offers sweeping views of the Western Ghats range.

The route remains open subject to local weather and forest conditions.
