A Singapore-flagged vessel collided with one of the pillars of the 2.57-kilometer-long Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, Maryland, causing the bridge to partially collapse.

Videos of the tragic accident on social media showed the cargo ship hitting the Francis Scott Key Bridge as it was heading to Colombo, Sri Lanka, causing the bridge to collapse.
The Baltimore City Fire Department said it expected multiple injuries and its crews were mobilized to search for people in the river.
Kevin Cartwright, director of communications for the Baltimore Fire Department, told Reuters: “At approximately 1:30 a.m., we received multiple 911 calls reporting that a vessel had hit the base bridge in Baltimore. , leading to collapse.”
“This is currently a mass casualty incident and we are looking for seven people in the river.”
Shortly after the incident, Synergy Marine Group confirmed that its Singapore-flagged container ship Dali collided with a pillar of the bridge.
“While the exact cause of the incident has not yet been determined, ‘Dali’ has now mobilized its qualified personal incident response services,” the company said.
No crew members were injured and all were accounted for, the statement added.
