A report by Amazon Web Services (AWS) shows that wages for workers with artificial intelligence skills and knowledge in India are likely to rise by more than 54%, with IT and R&D staff seeing the highest wage increases.
About 99% of employers expect their companies to become AI-driven organizations by 2028, according to a report commissioned by Amazon subsidiary AWS.
“While the majority of employers (97%) believe their finance department will be the biggest beneficiary, they also expect IT (96%), R&D (96%), sales and marketing (96%), business operations (95% ), HR (94%) and legal (92%) departments are also driving significant value from AI.”
Approximately 98% of employers and employees surveyed expect to use generative AI tools at work within the next five years, with 73% of employers highlighting “enhanced innovation and creativity” as the biggest benefit.
The report, Accelerating Artificial Intelligence Skills: Preparing the Asia-Pacific Workforce for the Future of Work, surveyed more than 1,600 workers and 500 employers in India.
“At AWS, we are helping organizations like Wipro, L&T Technology Services, Iris Software and others upskill their employees and prepare for a future driven by generative AI,” said Amit Mehta, director of training and certification at AWS India.
The study also sheds light on the skills gap in the AI space, noting that hiring AI talent is a top priority for more than nine in 10 (96%) employers in India, with 79% of them unable to find the AI talent they need. This highlights the need for greater collaboration between government, industry and educators, the report said.
Around 95 per cent of Indian workers express a strong interest in developing AI skills to accelerate their careers, and this interest spans generations, the report added.
“95% of Gen Z, 96% of Millennials, and 93% of Gen ,if so.”
