Jabalpur, Nov 1 (IANS) Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) general secretary Dattatreya Hosabale on Saturday said the Sangh is fully aware of the religious conversions in the border state of Punjab, while the organization is also concerned about the rising hatred and unchecked violence in West Bengal.
The RSS functionary alleged that planned religious conversion was taking place in the Sikh community of Punjab.
Hosabale said the organization is fully aware of the situation and efforts have been made to curb these conversions.
He said, “Religion conversion is going on in a planned manner in Punjab and it needs to be stopped. Similarly, religious conversion is also being done among tribals and Hindus. RSS is keeping a close watch on all these issues.”
Hosabale said that an organized effort is needed to make people realize what is happening around them and these conversions need to be stopped.
“The RSS is running a campaign in Punjab to sensitize people to protect their religious identity,” Hosabale said.
The RSS functionary said the organization held a detailed discussion on religious conversion during the three-day national executive body meeting in Jabalpur, which concluded on Saturday.
Emphasizing further on the issue of religious conversion, Hosabale said that RSS is also running ‘Dharma Jagran’ programme.
He said that ‘Ghar-Vapsi’ (return to religious identity) programs are also being run.
“Homecoming can happen only by making people aware,” he said.
Meanwhile, he also said that violence, hatred and instability have become deeply prevalent in West Bengal.
“This is a matter of concern. Bengal is a border state and faces pressure from people coming from Bangladesh,” he said.
Hosabale said that the situation in West Bengal is worrying due to the current political leadership.
“The political leadership has failed to end this malaise in the state. It is unjust to keep West Bengal in an environment of instability and violence,” he said.
Asked whether Bihar was discussed in the meeting, Hosabale said there was no discussion on Bihar elections, but the Sangh’s position was clear that people should vote in large numbers on issues related to the nation and society and not on caste or wealth.
