An Indian-American member of the US Congress has claimed that attacks against Hindus and Hinduism have increased in the US, calling this the “beginning of coordinated anti-Hindu attacks”.
Congressman Shri Thanedar said such attacks create a lot of fear among the Indian Hindu community in the United States.
“We are seeing a lot of attacks on Hindu temples across the United States. Now is the time for us to reach out for support. The Hindu community is in fear. Local law enforcement is not taking enough action and no suspects have been seen or arrested,” I don’t see anyone addressing this issue either,” Sandel said.
Citing recent attacks on Hindu temples, the MP said: “We have experienced more of these incidents in recent months. I have a feeling this is just the beginning of a very coordinated attempt to target this community, the community We must unite. When the time comes, I will stand with you.”
Thanedar and four other Indian-American lawmakers — Lo Khanna, Raja Krishnamurthy, Ami Birla and Pramila Jayapal — recently wrote to the U.S. The Justice Department, seeking an investigation into attacks on Hindu temples in the country.
Speaking at a news conference organized by the Washington-based nonprofit HinduAction, he added that there is a lot of misinformation being spread, both online and otherwise.
“I practice Hinduism, grew up as a Hindu in a Hindu family, and I know what Hinduism is. It is a very peaceful religion. Yet, this community is still misrepresented, misunderstood, sometimes deliberately,” he further noted.
Such attacks have occurred in California, New York and “all over the country,” Sanidhar claimed, adding that inaction from local authorities left the Hindu community feeling like no one cared about them.
