Kolkata, October 19 (IANS) The Bharatiya Janata Party on Sunday targeted the Mamata Banerjee government over the attack on the convoy of its MP Raju Bista and accused the state government of disturbing peace in North Bengal.
BJP’s IT cell chief and West Bengal central observer, Amit Malviya, said in a post on
“Following the attack on tribal MP Khagen Murmu in Jalpaiguri, BJP MP Raju Bista’s convoy was targeted today at Masadhura near Sukhiya Pokhri in Darjeeling. Though the MP’s vehicle narrowly escaped the attack and the car was hit from behind, its timing – just after the announcement of an interlocutor for the area – raises serious questions on Mamata Banerjee’s intentions.” Malaviya.
On Saturday evening, the convoy of BJP MP Raju Bista, who was returning from Rimbik after doing relief work, was attacked by miscreants in Sukhiya Pokhri area of Darjeeling district.
Reacting to the attack, Malviya said the Mamata Banerjee government has neglected the North Bengal region and mistreated the people there.
“It is clear that she wants to disrupt peace in North Bengal, a region where her administration has consistently neglected and mistreated. The repeated attacks on BJP MPs reflect Mamata Banerjee’s growing fear and anxiety over her party’s imminent defeat in the upcoming assembly elections.”
The incident comes weeks after BJP MP Khagen Murmu and party MLA Shankar Ghosh were attacked by miscreants in Nagarakata area of Jalpaiguri district.
When Murmu and Ghosh went to provide relief in the flood-affected area of Nagarakata in Jalpaiguri district, they faced opposition. Some miscreants attacked BJP leaders with sticks and stones. Their cars were vandalized.
Khagen Murmu suffered serious injuries on his face. Later both the leaders were admitted to the hospital for treatment. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had condemned the attack. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had met the injured BJP MP in the hospital. A total of six people were arrested in connection with the attack on Khagen Murmu.
