Two children, ages 8 and 9, were among four people killed in a gang-related shooting in California that left 14 others injured at a birthday party in downtown Stockton, California.
The suspect in the shooting remains at large. Officials said one of those killed was just 14 and the other was 21. A prayer monitoring A meeting will be held for the families of the victims on Sunday evening.
Stockton Mayor Christina Fugazi confirmed the shooting is being treated as gang-related. Fugazi also said advisers to President Donald Trump have been in touch to offer help in locating the gunman.
The shooting happened around 6 p.m. Pacific time at a banquet hall along the 1900 block of Lucille Avenue, San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Heather Brent said in a briefing.
Stockton Vice Mayor Jason Lee confirmed that the attack occurred at a child’s birthday party.
“An ice cream shop should never be a place where families fear for their lives,” Lee said.
Brent did not confirm details of the incident, but said early indications suggest it may have been a targeted incident.
No arrests have been made yet, Brent said.

The San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office said: “We can confirm at this time that approximately 14 people were struck by gunfire, and four victims have been confirmed dead.”
“This is a very active and ongoing investigation, and information is limited. Early indications suggest this may have been a targeted incident, and investigators are exploring all possibilities.”
“We are urging anyone with information, video footage, or who witnessed any part of this incident to contact the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office immediately,” it says.
The office of California Governor Gavin Newsom said he was aware of the shooting.
The mayor previously said, “What happened tonight is again unacceptable. Families should be together instead of in the hospital, standing next to their loved ones and praying that they survive.”
While San Joaquin County District Attorney Ron Freitas said in a statement, “This type of tragedy is unimaginable and it breaks our hearts to see the loss of lives and children in our community.”
Freitas urged the suspect to “turn yourself in immediately.”
There were no details on the suspect’s motive, and the circumstances that led to the shooting were unclear. Police are urging witnesses, especially those who may have video recordings of the incident, to come forward.
The shooting occurred inside the banquet hall, which shares a parking lot with other businesses.
The victims were taken to hospitals for treatment.
