At least 15 people were killed late Tuesday night after a massive landslide swept away debris Indianorthern state of Himachal PradeshLocal officials said.
The bus was traveling on a hilly stretch near Bilaspur district when a landslide occurred after days of torrential rains. There were at least 25 passengers in the bus at that time. Police said nine men, four women and two children were among those killed.
Three injured children were rescued and admitted to a local hospital for treatment, according to a statement from the office of the state’s top electoral official, Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu.
Police said rescue operations were underway on Wednesday trying to find other missing passengers who were presumed dead.
Intermittent rain has lashed the region since Monday, making the delicate mountain slopes unstable.
