The counting of votes took place at the Government Polytechnic College, Gandhi Nagar. As soon as the news of his victory spread, Rana was given a warm welcome by BJP workers at the counting centre, where he was garlanded upon his arrival. He thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP President JP Nadda and other party leaders for believing in him.
More than 75% voting took place in the Nagrota by-election held on November 11 after the death of Devender Singh Rana. Rana was pitted against NC candidate Shamim Begum, sitting District Development Council member and former state education minister and three-time MLA from Ramnagar Harsh Dev Singh. Historically, the last five assembly elections in Nagrota have alternated between the BJP and the NC and the Congress has not fielded any candidate.

The by-election result clearly shows that the BJP government has failed to perform. It has given a strong message to the voters ahead of the 2028 assembly elections.”
