Indian Railways has upgraded Kamakhya Junction in Assam to support the upcoming Vande Bharat and Amrit Bharat Express services. As part of the upgradation work, Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) zone completed electrification of both the pit lines, enhancing operational efficiencies.

The zonal railway has also erected eight pedestals to facilitate maintenance operations of Pantograph (Panto) and Roof Mounted Package Unit (RMPU). Vande Bharat And Amrit Bharat train sets are significantly increasing the maintenance capacity.

Thanks to these installations, periodic servicing of the upgraded rolling stock will be safer, quicker and more effective.

In a statement, NFR Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) Kapinjal Kishore Sharma mentioned the major infrastructure upgrade at Kamakhya railway station and described it as a ‘major milestone’.

“This critical infrastructure upgrade is a major milestone in enhancing maintenance capabilities and preparing the station for efficient operations and maintenance upcoming Vande Bharat Express And Amrit Bharat train services,” Sharma was quoted as saying by The Indian Express.

According to the CPRO, the upgrade is in line with the net-zero mission of Indian Railways to achieve a carbon-neutral network by the year 2030. “This progress brings NFR closer to deploying advanced, state-of-the-art trains into regular operation and providing advanced, sustainable rail services to passengers across the region,” he said.

Meanwhile, NFR has also launched several transformative railway development initiatives to improve connectivity, infrastructure and economic development in Bodoland Territorial Area Districts (BTAD), Assam.
