Police said on Thursday that Guwahati, September 18 (IANS) Assam Police has thwarted a major drug pedaling effort and drug items worth more than Rs 12 crore were confiscated.
A senior police officer said, “Based on reliable intelligence input, we performed an operation in Silchar city of Catcher district.
According to the police, the total international market price of seized drugs will be more than Rs 12 crore.
“We have estimated the value of the drug seized in the international market at Rs 12 crore Rs 70 lakh. A person identified as Dilwar Hussain Laskar was arrested on charges of drug pedaling and a case under the relevant section was registered against him,” the official said.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma recently stated that the fight against drug Nexus is on a large scale, while claiming that drug smugglers have used several new methods including drones to give consignment of drugs.
The Chief Minister said that with the revised strategy, medicines are being given by smugglers sitting in distant places, which is dangerous.
He said, “In Assam and Meghalaya, drug carriers are mainly working, and it is a long battle against us, and it will continue. However, the traffic is using various methods to distribute the traffic consignments, and often they are using drones as a carrier of drug items,” they said.
Talking to reporters here, he said: “The risk of drugs is very large, and each state government is taking efforts to thwart drug pedaling efforts. Assam is dealing with a network of narcotics with its full force, and we have zero tolerance against drugs. I believe that continuous operations against drugs are a way to separate from society.”
The Chief Minister also said that the kingpins of drug networks do not live in India, and they work from foreign countries.
“Kingpins of Nexus of drugs operate from abroad through their agents. They use all possible modus operandi to avoid being caught by the police. Sometimes, many agents travel together with small consignments of drugs, which it is very difficult to find out.
