Officials said on Wednesday that Isaval/Agartala, 24 September (IANS) Assam Rifles seized Heroin in Mizoram for about Rs 11.40 crore and arrested three drug pedals including a woman, officials said on Wednesday.
A defense spokesperson said that while working on reliable input of drug smuggling, soldiers of Assam Rifles started an operation in the World Bank Road areas, bordering Zokhawathar Town in Champhai district on Tuesday night.
Paramilitary soldiers saw three persons in the region searching for something suspicious. Individuals, including the woman, were caught while trying to take a hidden package.
The intensive discovery of the region caused a recovery of 1.377 kg of heroin, priced at around Rs 11.40 crore.
The three persons were identified as Zarzosanga, Joseph Lalmsanga and Malsavamkimi.
The recovered drugs along with individuals operated, have been handed over to the department of customs and drugs for further legal action.
Officials said that smuggled drugs from Myanmar, which share the boundary of 1,643 km with four northeastern states – Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Nagaland and Mizoram -, which serve as a major transit point for drugs, especially heroin and metamphatemine tablets, entering India.
The chin state of Myanmar is a foreign wildlife.
In Tripura, Chief Minister Manik Saha said that various laws-launch agencies have arrested 248 persons for illegal drug consumption and also caught 2,729 drug pedals during the last three financial years.
On Tuesday night, the Chief Minister responded to the questions of Congress MLA Sudeep Roy Burman and CPI (M) MLA Sudeep Sarkar in Tripura Assembly on Tuesday night and said that in addition to arresting 2,729 drugs pedals during the last three financial years (2022-23, 2023-24 and 2024-25), now 28 more illegally searching.
CM Saha, who also holds home portfolio in a written answer, said that under the drug drugs and psychotropic substances (NDP) Act 1985, the sentence was 11.7 percent in 2022 and five percent in 2023 and five percent in 2023 and five percent in 2024.
Following the order of the courts, the High Level Drug Disposal Committee and the State Level Drug Disposal Committee destroyed and burnt the drugs seized in the east-lady places, the Chief Minister said.
