Imphal, September 20 (IANS) The Governor of Manipur and the Eastern Command Head of the Army on Saturday led a rich tribute to the two -killed Assam Rifle personnel, who were injured by an unknown armed group and five others injured in Bishanupur district of Manipur.
Defense spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Amit Shukla said that at a deepest walking ceremony organized under the aegis of Inspector General Assam Rifles (South) of the headquarters, at the ceremony, Naib-Saddar Shyam Gurung (59) and Rifleman Ranjit Singh Kaship (36) were given heartfelt tributes.
Both Gurung and Kashyap lived their lives in the line of duty on Friday (September 19) during a ambush in Nambol Sabal Leki in Bishanupur district.
The spokesperson said that two brave soldiers were returning to other personnel from the operation of flood relief in the Imphal Valley, when their convoy was ambushed by the force of unknown rebellions along with the Uphal -Demapur National Highway (NH -2) in Nambol Sabal Likai area of Bishanupur district.
Despite maintaining severe gun injuries, both men retained the highest traditions of courage and selflessness, which led to the final sacrifice for the nation, said Lt Col.
He said that to honor his valor, a wreath ceremony was organized at Mantripukhri Garison, Emfal participated by about 150 personnel, including dignitaries, soldiers and veterans.
Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, and Lieutenant General Ram Chander Tiwari, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Command, led the tribute.
Assam Rifles, Directorate General Assam Rifle (Dgar), Central Armed Police Force (CAPFS), Border Security Force (BSF), and senior officers and representatives of Manipur Police attended to pay their honors, laying a wreath and observe a serious guard of honor.
