New Delhi, Oct 22 (IANS) In a series of well-coordinated counter-insurgency operations in the North East, Assam Rifles has successfully foiled repeated attempts by insurgent groups – ULFA (I) and NSCN – K (YA) – to target security forces in recent weeks.
On 16 October, NSCN-K (YA) launched a standoff attack on Headman Camp in Changlang district of South Arunachal Pradesh, which was effectively foiled by immediate and prompt response.
The next day, on 17 October, ULFA(I) attempted a similar attack on Kakopathar Camp in Assam.
“Alert troops retaliated decisively, causing casualties to the insurgent group and capturing an over ground worker (OGW) involved in the conspiracy,” defense sources said.
“In response, Assam Rifles intensified its operations activating an extensive anti-terrorist grid supported by modern surveillance assets, drones and intelligence-based high-tech teams,” sources said.
The advanced grid culminated in a successful attack near Namsai in South Arunachal Pradesh on 21 October, resulting in the neutralization of a ULFA(I) cadre and recovery of war-like stores.
These prompt and precise actions have not only foiled the nefarious intentions of the insurgents but have also re-established the morale of the security forces in the entire area.
According to defense sources, “Rebel groups are now on the run, their networks have been disrupted and the leadership is under pressure.”
Through meticulous planning, proactive deployment grid and effective intelligence integration, the security forces have demonstrated exceptional operational preparedness and resolve.
The steadfast role, professional planning and steadfast execution of the Assam Rifles continues to maintain peace and stability in the North East of India – reaffirming their legacy as the sentinels of the North East.
