Guwahati, Nov 21 (IANS) Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday said Assam is witnessing an unprecedented transformation in its road infrastructure as the state government accelerates construction of high-speed corridors, bridges and better connectivity under the ambitious #Asommala3.0 initiative.
In a post on social media platform X, the Chief Minister said every district, every bridge and every kilometer of road is now becoming part of a larger vision aimed at reshaping Assam’s transport network.
The Asommala 3.0 project is investing Rs 3,217 crore to develop the 883 km long high-speed corridor spanning 34 districts of the state.
CM Sarma said, “Every district, every bridge, every kilometer – Assam’s road transformation is progressing at an unprecedented pace.” He said that the government is committed to provide the connectivity which the state was deprived of for decades.
As part of the project, 36 new bridges are being constructed at key locations to remove bottlenecks, improve access to remote areas and create seamless connectivity between rural and urban centres.
These infrastructure upgrades are expected to significantly reduce travel times, boost logistics efficiency and improve road safety for daily commuters and commercial transport. Public Works Department officials said the new network of corridors will play an important role in strengthening Assam’s integration with neighboring north-eastern states and major national highways.
“Better connectivity is also expected to facilitate faster movement of essential commodities, agricultural produce and industrial supplies, which will strengthen the state’s economy,” a senior official said.
The project is being implemented in phases, with survey work, land acquisition and ground work already underway in several districts. Modern construction technologies, advanced materials and high design standards are being incorporated to ensure durability and long-term performance of roads and bridges.
Experts believe that the Asommala 3.0 plan will not only enhance physical connectivity but also open new avenues of employment and encourage private investment in sectors such as tourism, manufacturing and trade.
With strategic planning and sustained funding, the state government aims to establish Assam as a major connectivity hub in the Northeast, connecting the region with the rest of India more effectively. The Chief Minister reiterated that infrastructure development is one of the top priorities of his government and assured that the work will continue at an accelerated pace in the coming months.
