Mumbai:
A day after being removed as Mumbai Youth Congress president, Zeeshan Siddiqui attacked the grand old party over its treatment of minorities and accused it of being ‘communal’.
On being removed from the post, he said, “It is very unfortunate.”
Baba Siddiqui’s son Zeeshan, who parted ways with the Congress earlier this month, alleged that Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge “cannot even discharge his responsibilities with complete independence” in the party.
“Mallikarjun Kharge is such a senior leader but his hands are also tied. Rahul Gandhi is doing his work but it seems as if people around him have betrayed him.” ‘Betel’ “(Contracts) were taken from other parties to destroy the Congress,” he alleged.
Recalling the conversation in Nanded, Maharashtra, he said, “During the last ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ in Nanded, I was told by one of the people close to Rahul Gandhi that I should lose 10 kg before being allowed to meet him “
Calling Congress ‘communal’, Zeeshan said, “The treatment being meted out to minority leaders and workers in Congress is unfortunate. The level of communalism in Congress and Mumbai Youth Congress is different from elsewhere. Is it a sin to have Muslims in Congress? The party will have to answer why I am being targeted? Is it just because I’m Muslim?”
Zeeshan was removed from the post of Mumbai Youth Congress President on Wednesday.
Earlier this month, Zeeshan’s father Baba Siddiqui had left the Congress and joined the Ajit Pawar faction of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).
